kMy Triathlon Journey Week 3 & 4
Hey world!!
Can you believe I am two weeks behind on my blog?? It's been so busy! So let's just start off with last weeks adventures.
Ok so goal 2 was accomplished y'all! I finally did an Open Water Swim, also known as OWS in the tri community. So my week leading up to that crazy day was pretty busy. Being a single parent can be tough. I have to consistently re-evaluate the times I train to ensure I provide the attention my son and daughter needs. Now my son is 17 (that happened this week) and he is all about not doing anything. Having the conversation with your teens regarding your training schedule is important. Not only because you want to ensure your giving them attention but that you can write down the proof that you asked if they are ok with your training time. Let's face it people teenagers switch moods twice a day if not more. I didn't have the same conversation with my daughter but I make sure we do things together or that I take her to the track with me. I want her to feel as if she's apart of it since she stopped doing gymnastics. At the same token if I say to my daughter "cynthia, mommy wants to make sure i'm giving you the attention you need", she'll use that as leverage for everything. No I mean evvverrrryyyything!!! GIRLS!
So, I am finally getting some miles in by riding in the park. I decided to defiantly work on technique and continuing to clip on and off the bike. I attended a bike handling clinic that the team of The Dog House Cycling Center put on. They were amazing!! I'm not going to lie, the thought of getting in a cycling incident sits on the back of my mind. I know i'll need continued practice but after falling 2x's now I don't want something serious to happen. I however am faithful and confident. I know things will work out as long as I keep practicing.
So Sunday strolls around and it's OWS time! I was both a bit uneasy but ready to accomplish this goal! The water was flat, it was a hot but beautiful day! We had a great crew and team at the beach to assist us through it all. Zoe Da Silva from Go Athletics Florida was very informative and patient. I was fortunate to have these sessions with her. I kept on reminding myself of what Katie taught me from our session together. The ocean is a different story! I would swim a couple of times then stop. I repeated this movement over and over and it was not fun! The ocean water getting in your nose burns so bad!! I didn't give up but I knew that I had more work in the water then what I thought of. Rick was able to teach me some more techniques to help me with my swim. It helped for sure but I definitely need to continue working on my head position and how I move in the water.
I had some girls with me in the back and every time I stopped I looked up and thought "geesh how can i keep up"? I have a litter over a month to go and I can't even get to 200 meters. My breathing techniques needs so much work. This was such an eye-opener, training is extremely vital, i'm going to definitely need private lessons in the water, but I can't allow any of this to discourage me from completing what I set out to do.
This can all become so overwhelming! I can easily get discouraged! Yet, I'm choosing not to. My first race is in a month and the swim portion is in a lake. So I wont have the sand underneath my feet to give me a break. I have to continue figuring ways that will get me across the water with out getting myself tired. Then the idea of the water going in my mouth from the lake (ugghhh im cringing) I don't even want to think about it. I mean I'm the girl who's base for cleaning her place is Clorox! So this will be an adventure for sure! I've been running and cycling more but swimming...yeah I gotta get in the water. How do I find the time? Thank goodness i'm single right?! LOL.
